Evelyn G. Reese

SHARPSBURG - Evelyn Gertrude Reese, 86, of 4433 Mills Road, and formerly of Linthicum Heights, Md., died Sunday, Feb. 9, 1997, at Reeders Memorial Home, Boonsboro.

Born Aug. 24, 1910, in Annapolis, she was the daughter of the late William and Nellie Bealer Price.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Harrison Reese, in 1970.

She retired in 1963 from Warner Fruehauf Co. in Baltimore.

She was a member of Sharpsburg Bible Church.

She is survived by two sons, William Phillip Reese of Camarillo, Calif., and H. Price Reese of Sharpsburg; two granddaughters, Kristine Reese of Huntington, W.Va., and Amanda Reese Nelson of Tempe, Ariz.; five step-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be Wednesday at noon at St. Ann's Cemetery in Annapolis. The Rev. Gene Renner will officiate.

The family will receive friends at Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Daniel M. Wolfe

HARMONY, Md. - Daniel Mahlon Wolfe, 88, of Harmony, died Saturday, Feb. 8, 1997, at Citizen's Nursing Home, Frederick, Md.

Born Jan. 7, 1909, in Highland, Md., he was the son of the late Daniel Webster and Cora Elizabeth Baker Wolfe.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Stahl Wolfe, in 1982.

He retired in 1972 as a mechanic with the Roney Motor Co., Frederick.

He was a member of Harmony Church of the Brethren.

He is survived by seven daughters, Carolyn Riggs and Betty Riggs, both of Keymar, Md., Virginia Carpenter and Regina Trump, both of Frederick, Hope Horseman, Cora Elizabeth Butts and Ellen Kline, all of Middletown, Md.; 17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one son, Henry Wolfe.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Ricketts Funeral Home, Myersville, Md. The Rev. Tracy Wisner and the Rev. Paul N. Leatherman will officiate. Burial will be in Harmony Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

Hilda L. Oyler

FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - Hilda Louise Oyler, 89, of 297 Mount Pleasant Road, died Sunday, Feb. 9, 1997, at her home.

Born Feb. 25, 1907, in Quincy, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Hugh P. and Alice Cook Brumbaugh.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred G. Oyler, in 1973.

She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Fayetteville. She was a member of Queen Esther Sunday School Class and Senior Choir.

She was a life member of Ladies Auxiliary of the Fayetteville Volunteer Fire Co.

She is survived by one brother, James H. Brumbaugh of Fayetteville; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three sisters.

Services will be Tuesday at 3 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 44 E. Main St., Fayetteville. The Rev. Robert Seibold will officiate. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery, Chambersburg.

Visitation will be at the church 30 minutes prior to the service Tuesday.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 44 E. Main St., Fayetteville, Pa. 17222.

Arrangements are by Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg.

Ethel Charmley

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Ethel Charmley, 83, of Martinsburg, and formerly of Adin, Calif., died Sunday, Feb. 2, 1997, at Canterbury Nursing Home, Shepherdstown, W.Va.

Born Aug. 1, 1913, in Ethel, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Medard and Angelina Mussetto Albertazzie.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John T. Charmley, in 1992.

She was a homemaker.

She was of the Protestant faith.

She is survived by four nieces, Dr. Vocato George of Berza, Ohio, LeVeda Loroski of Clifton, Ohio, Lorraine Lemke of Adin and Sabian Simpson of Shepherdstown; five nephews, Edward E. Stout of Martinsburg, Earl Albertazzie of Morgantown, W.Va., Ralph Albertazzie of Hedgesville, W.Va., Michael Alberts of Shinnston, W.Va., and Alfred Gould Jr. of Weatherford, Texas.

She was preceded in death by five sisters and brothers.

A memorial service will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the chapel of Trinity United Methodist Church, 220 W. Martin St., Martinsburg. The Rev. Jack T. Sutor Jr. will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Chapel of Chimes Cemetery, Adin.

Arrangements are by Rosedale Funeral Chapel, Martinsburg.

Frances E. Penwell

WILLIAMSPORT - Frances Edna "Franny" Penwell, 59, of Fenton Avenue, died Sunday, Feb. 9, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Oct. 14, 1937, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Roy Irving and Edna Frances Shank West.

She was employed by W.D. Byron and Sons in Williamsport.

She was a member of Pocahontas T.A.S. Red Feather Council No. 59, Williamsport.

She is survived by one daughter, Edna F. Penwell of Charles Town, W.Va.; two sons, Nelson W. Penwell Jr. of Clear Spring and Anthony W. Penwell of Oklahoma; three sisters, Pearl Jane Silvers of Williamsport, Rita Dolores Higgins of Big Pool and Nancy Louise Palmer of Hagerstown; three brothers, Irving R. "Bump" West and Charles Edward West, both of Hagerstown, and David Warren West of Williamsport; six grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Beatrice Virginia West; and two brothers, Herbert Roy "Sonny" West and Roy Irving West Jr.

Graveside services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown. The Rev. S. Dwight Morgan will officiate.

The family will receive friends at Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg, Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m.

Louis J. Fratscher Jr.

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Louis J. Fratscher Jr., 72, of Waynesboro, died Sunday, Feb. 9, 1997, at Chambersburg Hospital, Chambersburg, Pa.

Born Oct. 29, 1924, in Easton, Pa., he was the son of the late Louis J. and Esther Fretz Fratscher.

He was employed by Ryder Truck Lines in Hagerstown for 15 years and retired in 1987.

He was veteran of World War II and served with the U.S. Army Air Corps.

He is survived by his wife, Blanche Fretz Fratscher; one daughter, Sandra L. Naugle of Chambersburg; one sister, Joyce Buckman of Easton; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.

There will be no viewing or visitation.

Arrangements are by Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg.

Ann V.E. Minnich

Ann Virginia Emerson Minnich, 66, of 13509 Overhill Drive, Hagerstown, died Monday, Feb. 10, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.

Born March 26, 1930, in Marlowe, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Daniel O. and Malinda Knipple Emerson.

She was a 1948 graduate of Martinsburg High School, Martinsburg, W.Va.

She was previously employed by Hays Inc. and The Herald-Mail Co.

She was a 45-year member of Beta Sigma Phi International Sorority and was president of Alpha Master Chapter. She also was a member of Hagerstown Beta Sigma Phi City Council.

She was a 25-year volunteer with the American Heart Association, where she was residential chairwoman for 20 years and an office volunteer. She received the Outstanding Volunteer of the Year Award for 1991.

She was a member of Zion Reformed Church.

She is survived by her husband, James B. Minnich; two daughters, Cynthia Minnich Lapham of Germantown, Md., and Linda C. Weisler of Eastham, Mass.; one son, Steven Bradley Minnich of California, Md.; and one granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Daniel F. Emerson.

Services will be Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Jack Dale Cook will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday two hours prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 92 W. Washington St., Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

Margaret L. Reese

Margaret Louise Reese, 80, of 10731 White Hall Road, Hagerstown, died Monday, Feb. 10, 1997, at her home.

Born May 30, 1916, in Sharpsburg, she was the daughter of the late Harry A. and Jennie C. Storm Spielman.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles William Reese, in 1995.

She was a member of Beaver Creek Christian Church.

She is survived by one daughter, Linda G. Harrell of Beaver Creek; three grandchildren, Wanda G. Garner of Hagerstown, Janese A. Gasper of Cambridge, Md., and Timothy J. Harrell of Beaver Creek; and one great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by five brothers, Aden P. Spielman, Russell G. Spielman, Harry H. Spielman, Samuel H. Spielman and Lewis A. Spielman.

Services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel of Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The Rev. J. Mark Curran and the Rev. Daniel Jordan will officiate. Burial will be in Beaver Creek Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
