Waupaca, Wisconsin Formerly of Scandinavia, age 88, passed away Sunday, December 15, 2002 at Riverside Medical Center in Waupaca. He was born April 7, 1914 in Little Wolf, Waupaca County, Wisconsin the son of the late Emanuel and Meta (Prellwitz) Bartel. Elmer married lone Frazier on October 28, 1942 in Symco, Wisconsin. The couple farmed with Tone's parents near Manawa, until February 1956, when they purchased a farm near Scandinavia.

Besides farming, Elmer hauled milk to the Manawa Creamery and later took a job in the welding shop of Trade Winds i in Manawa. A large garden was always a part of this couple's life and in his retirement years it became his joy to pass this interest to younger family members. He especially enjoyed fishing and growing potatoes. Elmer is survived by his wife, lone Bartel, Scandinavia; three children: Garold (Phyllis) Bartel, Scandinavia; Joyce (Gary) Chich, Iola; Harlan (Susan) Bartel, Augusta, Kansas; nine grandchildren: 14 great-grandchildren, a brother, Duane (Alice) Bartel, Manawa; sister, Alice Brown, Scandinavia; two sisters-in-law: Hildegard Bartel, Readfield; Edna Bartel, Royalton. He was preceded in death by his parents, three grandchildren, five brothers and two sisters.

A Funeral Service will be Friday, December 20, 2002 at 11 a.m. at Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church in Waupaca. Reverend James R. Diener will officiate.

Robert was born on July 30, 1930 in West Bend, Wisconsin, son of the late Erwin and Dora (Paff) Bastian. On June 9, 1956, Robert married Sharon Foxworthy, and they have enjoyed over 46 years of marriage together. Robert is survived by his wife, Sharon; his daughter, Michelle Bastian, and her children, Ben and Dillon; his son, Mark Bastian, and his children, Valerie and Emma; his brother, Bill (Dorothy) Bastian; his sister, June (Art) Witalison; and a half-brother, Henry. Appleton Age, 69, passed away December 16, 2002, peacefully in his home, with his family by his side, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Rollie was born in the town of Freedom on November 30, 1933, son of Lawrence and Eleanor (Merkel) Buss. On February 29, 1952, he married Barbara Salm in Appleton. Rollie was employed by AAL for 36 years until his retirement in 1987. During his time at AAL, Rollie was a member of the National Guard for ten years.

He also worked part-time for Valley Transit after his retirement and later volunteered for Project Self Help and Awareness, driving underprivileged children by bus to and from Mississippi, an activity that he truly enjoyed. Rollie was a life-long member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Appleton, serving on the church board and actively involved in his church. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, and enjoyed golfing with his family. Rollie is survived by his wife, Barbara, and mother, Eleanor.

Also surviving are his children: Steven (Kathy) Buss and their children, Andy and Eric, Menasha; Maree (Fred) Shorter, Darboy, and their children, Melissa and Erica Shorter and Friends and families of the deceased have prepared these obituaries and funeral announcements. They are a tribute to their loved ones' accomplishments and a service to friends who would like to pay their respects. She was a graduate of Holy Family School of Nursing in Manitowoc, Wisconsin and served in the Army Nurse Corps in the closing years of World War II. She married Glenn D.

Carroll on April 21, 1947 in Paris, Illinois and lived and worked in the Brillion, Wisconsin area before moving briefly to Kankakee, Illinois and then to Edmonton, Kentucky in 1977. She was an accomplished seamstress and quilter and had an insatiable intellectual curiosity fed by a love for reading and a deep interest in news and current events. She is survived by her husband, Glenn; four children: Stephen (JoDelle) Carroll, Appleton; Susan (John) Johnson, Worcester, Massachusetts; Mark Carroll, Manitowoc; Timothy Carroll, Brownsville, Texas; a grandson, Adam Johnson and his fiancee Colleen Waldron; nieces, nephews and a wonderfully supportive group of friends and Age 79, died Monday, Decem- neighbors. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Ruth and a niece. A memorial service will be planned in the future.

Drzewiecki, Joseph V. "Joe" Menasha Joe, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and greatgrandfather, age 84, died on Sunday, De- cember 15, 2002 at Cherry Meadows. Joe was born on March 14, 1918 in Suamico, he is the son of the late Joseph and Julia (Kaczmarek) Drzewiecki. He married Veronica Jane Talarczyk on June 14, 1941 in Antigo, Wisconsin. Joe was employed with th Point Fish Company, Leath Furniture, Wisconsin Tissue Mill, Marathon and retired from American Can.

During his post retirement years Joe was a Realtor with Acre Realty. He was active in the United States navy from 1942 to 1945, serving in the Asiatic Pacific expedition. Joe was a member of St. John the Baptist Church, Menasha. Joe loved gardening, hunting and fishing at Lake George in Rhinelander.

A devoted naturalist and environmentalist he planted trees in 18 different Wisconsin counties. Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Verna; four sons: Joseph "Jay" (Patricia), Appleton; Paul (Ann), New London; John "Jack" (Clare), Menasha; David, Menasha; four daughters: Mary (Robert Karisny, Menasha; Ann (Kenneth Jahnke, Appleton; Jean (William Bruckner, San Diego; Julie (Adam Martin) Drzewiecki, Huntsville, Alabama; 17 grandchildren: Todd, Tara, Jason, Jill, Kalin, Carmen, Alex, Becky, Lindsay and Megan Drzewiecki; Mike Karisny, Jennifer McGinnis, Ethan Jahnke, Serena Jahnke-Berg, Kelli and John Bruckner and Jessica children: Beck; Katie seven and great grandJanssen, Jacquelyn Karisny, Nicole and Logan Stelzer, Taylor Drzewiecki and Patrick McGinnis; sisters-in-law: Mary Boncyk, Eau Claire; Anne Koszarek, Rhinelander; Clara Drzewiecki, Suamico; Ellie Talarczyk, Neenah; Verna Talarczyk, Neenah; a brother-in-law, Tony, (Mary) Talarczyk, Menasha. Barb graduated from Wrightstown High School in 1967, and attended NWTC. She was currently employed for the past 28 years for the State of Wisconsin Division of Vocation- al Rehabilitation. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Leona was a longtime She loved to pray the Rosary. Leona also enjoyed gardening, yard work, and helping others, especially her family. She is survived by her 2 sisters, Germaine (Marvin) Smith; and Theresa Dietzen. Leona is further survived by many nieces and nephews.
